    About James Mackie

Coming up fast through the ranks in 2020, James Mackie, based in Brighton UK, is quickly making a name for himself playing an inimitable style of funky, tech and jackin’ house, blended with classic piano breaks, spine-tingling sax solos, funky beats and beautiful vocals.

It is his stylistic approach and crazy energy that is making big waves for him across live streams, radio shows and gigs around the south of England.

James has been DJing and collecting music for 20 years, building up an enviable knowledge of classic house from 1988 to the present day. For many years, however, he struggled with self-confidence and turned to the darker side of the scene, which sent his DJing on the back burner.

Life took a new path recently as he turned to sobriety and celebrating 4 years clean living, he is now back and on a massive mission to make up for the lost time.

James takes great influence from Brighton legend Russell Small (The Freemasons) alongside the founding fathers of house music the late Frankie Knuckles, Lil’ Louis, Larry Heard, Derrick May and the list goes on…

Currently, you will find James playing live on Solaris Radio, and The Works Experience every week, and new gigs being added frequently.

His lifelong dream and 10-year plan will see him living in Ibiza, but for now, he likes to keep things one day at a time, living by his motto.

Be the best you can each and every day and see what happens.

Music has always been the best distraction to keep his mind at rest and as he no longer turns to alcohol and other substances, he finds it a form of euphoric meditation:

The only things going through my mind when I am playing is the music, the energy and the crowd.

In the words of Eddie Amador.

It’s a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing!”
